Proper pub! Great atmopshere with mixed bunch of people. Abit run down but has the feel of a 'old mans pub' Lots of choice of booze including black rat on tap!!! Has a small food menu i had a chicken pie minster pie for £5.50 followed by a jagerbomb! There was a band setting up at time which we didnt stay for had to go unfornatly but it looked like a great place to get drunk and dance to some live music!
They have a games area with pool table etc and outdoor smoking areas and Friendly staff -

On a recent promotion mission this was the only pub I felt comfortable in. The people were welcoming and didn't care what you looked like, the music was good in comparison its local rivals and it was the only pub in a 2mile radius not filled with what I could only describe as student kids with 3D haircuts struggling to hold their ale glass properly.
Stokes Croft and the bottom half of Glos rd used to be cool because it was a bit of a grubby secret, now those roads are turning into upmarket hipster trustafarian clique zones, thanks for the cat and wheel holding down a bit of realness and not being trendy. -

The Cat and Wheel is my local, precisely for all of the previous reviews and comments from all the prudes and youngs.
Yup, old men everywhere. Also, punk bands. It's a mixed crowd, but super friendly and utterly without pretense. It's run-down but comfortable--a welcome change from all the shiny-brass gastropubs that are taking over. -

Another one of these pubs....hmmm I think Gloucester Road has enough! This one (if I let it) could be named my local as I live very close but I refuse to let this be the case!
Inside it is much like most oldish pubs. Sticky tables, low ceilings, old men etc etc. However I did find the staff very nice and not pervy at all. I guess the main reason why I am giving it such a bad rating is that there is always (without doubt) leering middle aged men hovering at the door. I have to walk past this pub twice a day to and from the bus stop and I find myself looking to the floor every time for the fear of the drunken comments. I find them very intimidating and it has put me off ever stepping foot inside again. -

OK OK you're not going to bring your parents here when they visit and you're not going to take someone here on a first date but....
A two-sided bar. The one on the right is old man/locals only pub. It has several televisions and a pool table and people who have no teeth. Do not worry about them, they couldn't care less about you.
The one on the left has live music on Fridays from 9pm, and that is what is good about this place. Local punk covers band Fat, Drunk & Stupid play here often and they are possibly the best thing since sliced bread. They sell Black Rat (a cider which gets you drunk from the feet up), basic other drinks and have friendly staff who banter with the band. Great night out if you ask me, just not for some.
